When Love's Occasion Happens, by Matthew Tochman

Do you love her imperfections?
Or are they mere reflections,
of your past rejections,
or do you ask her for direction?

Do you kiss her when she sleeps?
Or swear on the promises she keeps?
Do you console her when she weeps?
And do you catch her when she leaps?

Do you offer her advice,
when she turns to her vice?
Can you bare to pay the price?
Just to tell her something nice?

Is this love worth saving?
Is it the kind you've been craving?
Do you cherish the path you’re paving?
Is it worth all that you are braving?

(Chorus)

When love’s occasion happens,
Do you find your spirit dampens?
or were you called to be her captain?

  1. You've got some evocative ideas, Matt. Have you ever written poetry without trying to rhyme it?
